Laziness Is Like A Bear...

Laziness is like a bear chasing you in the woods (if you’ve ever seen The Revenant*, you'll know exactly how devastating this situation can be).

The idea is to get up and keep moving forward. When laziness sets in, procrastination can quickly become your choice action; when procrastination is locked in, a lack in motivation can keep you lying down. Just get up and keep moving forward.

Some days, the bear will just about nab you. Other days, it will take you out for the remainder of the day. But the key is to get up and keep moving forward. One of the hardest things to do in life is to motivate ourselves into completing something that we have been reluctantly putting off — a project, a doctor’s appointment, finishing up cleaning your home. The bear has got you! So, what are you going to do about it?

The funny thing about momentum is that, once it gets going, it gets easier and easier as you go along. Just start. Fight the bear off of you. Take one part of the entirety of your task list and just do that. See how you feel then. It’s the small victories, not the big strides that will ultimately get you where you need to go.

The great illusion of success is that, when we look at someone who we deem to be “successful,” we can quickly think to ourselves, “I could never get there.” But were you there on the off-days that the person you are now aspiring to be got up, despite also thinking to themselves, “I can’t do this,” “it’s too hard,” “I’m going to quit”? No, fame only encapsulates the big victories. Laziness is like a bear — and these people just learned how to get up and keep moving forward.

So, what do you want to do in life? How big is the bear that’s chasing you? Is it too much for you to “bare”? Just get up and keep moving forward.

Some days, the bear will have you in its grasp and you’ll be forced to start again the next day. Other days, you will have just about narrowly escaped its claws. The simple idea here is this; just get up and keep moving forward. For, how do you want to spend the rest of your days? Being eaten, or coming out of this thing alive?

—the bear is headed your way, either way.
