Is It Better To Work For Yourself Or Work For Someone Else?
“If you don't build your dream someone else will hire you to help build theirs.”
-Tony A. Gaskins, Jr.
So, is it better to work for yourself or work for someone else?
Well, that’s actually a trick question… What it really comes down to is your desire to forge a path or have that path forged for you. Now, that isn’t to say one is any better than the other, it just depends on what you want out of life. Are you comfortable in the unknown, or would you prefer to have a horizon full of knowns that you can enjoy? Are you an ambitious person or are you more go-with-the-flow? Do you like to create direction or have direction provided for you? Do you prefer to take ownership over your work, or prefer ownership over your materials?
Again, it really depends on what you want out of life...
Far too much emphasis often gets placed on the “building your own dreams” part, but we fail to ever take into account the person that just wants to “enjoy the dream.”
Personally, having worked on both sides of the fence now, I know which side I’m leaning towards—it’s simply a matter of asking yourself: Do I enjoy Chaos, or am I more a friend to Order?
